THE NURSES
We have five practice nurses – Alice Matthews, Moira Clements, Carole Smart, Christine Ritchie and Kate Wilson. We have a District Nurse team who are not employed by the practice but who are based with us at Union Brae. Chris Turner is the Community Matron and Moira Graham, Elizabeth Sangster and Kirsty Sanderson are the Community Nurses. Joyce Armstrong and Helen Williamson work as auxiliary nurses, assisting the district and community nurses in their duties.
RGN – Level 1 Alice started working at the surgery in October 2000. She had previously worked in the local Accident and Emergency Department – gaining some valuable emergency experience. Alice in trained in asthma, family planning, cervical smear taking, travel health and sexual health. Her special interests are family planning and sexual health promotion for which she is the lead nurse in the practice. Alice is also the lead nurse for cervical screening and travel health.

RGN Moira joined the practice in 2003 after working at Berwick Infirmary for many years. She has completed her cervical cytology training and diabetes and asthma diplomas. She is the lead diabetic nurse in the practice. Click here for more information about diabetic clinics.

Carole joined the practice in February 2007. As well as running the heart disease, well man and new patient clinics Carole assists the visiting Gynaecologist from the Borders General Hospital at a fortnightly clinic. She also runs the childhood immunisation clinics. .
Christine returned to the practice in April 2008 after a four year break. She is very happy to be back and enjoys all aspects of practice nursing. Christine is currently doing further training towards a Nurse Practitioner qualification at present..

Kate works as a phlebotomist (takes blood) two mornings per week at Union Brae Surgery.
Chris joined the District Nursing Team in January 2010 and will be with the team for six months initially. .
RGN Moira has an interest in wound care and is a cardiac rehabilitation facilitator. She sees patients both at their homes and at the surgery.
