We have five doctors who cover Union Brae and Norham Practice.
Qualifications After completing his undergraduate training and postgraduate pre-registration hospital posts Dr Knight spent time in general medicine/casualty, paediatric medicine and anaesthetics. This was prior to completing training for a career in general practice with a hospital post in obstetrics and gynaecology and time as a trainee GP (now called a GP registrar) in a rural practice in County Durham. He found his ideal post in general practice coming into partnership with Dr Fisken in Tweedmouth in 1984 where he was able to continue not just his practice of hospital medicine, casualty and maternity but also of anaesthetics providing a service for surgical lists and also for casualty patients. He was a major contributor to the out-of-hours anaesthetic service for emergency surgery, major trauma and minor trauma until the general practice anaesthetic service was abandoned in 1999.
He holds surgeries at the Union Brae and Norham premises and attends patients at Berwick Maternity Unit when required.
Dr Knight is also the medical officer for the Berwick Lifeboat.
Qualifications Dr Wood joined the Practice in August 1989. He holds morning and afternoon surgeries at either Union Brae or Pedwell Way every weekday apart from Thursday. On a Thursday afternoon he works as a Clinical Assistant in Minor Surgery at Berwick Infirmary. He also does home visits. He practices Acupuncture and homeopathic medicine.
Qualifications Dr Ruffe joined the Practice in November 1997. She did her medical training at Manchester University, then further posts (including general medicine, accident and emergency, obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics) in the north west of England and the Borders. She spent time as a GP Registrar in Kelso, Roxburghshire.
Dr Ruffe works half time with Dr Fraser and holds surgeries at the Union Brae and Norham premises. She also attends Berwick Maternity Unit when required.
Every other Wednesday morning she works with the Berwick Community Substance Misuse Team.
Qualifications
Dr Forster joined the practice in August 2004. He did his medical training at Manchester University and then completed his general practice training in the Sheffield area.
He holds surgeries at the Union Brae and Norham premises and attends patients at Berwick Maternity Unit when required.
Qualifications
Dr Fraser joined the practice in October 2008. She did her medical training at Newcastle University and then completed General Practice training with the Northumbria Vocational Training Scheme. She was a partner in a practice in Morpeth for many years and then worked in medical management. She returned to clinical medicine in 2007.
Dr Fraser shares the week with Dr Ruffe and holds surgeries at Union Brae and Norham premises. She also works for Northumberland Care Trust as the named GP for Safeguarding Children.
